Random

I've decided to copy Allie's "Random Thoughts Thursday". Her posts are so fun to read and they are a perfect snapshot of her life, thoughts and feelings at that moment. Not to mention I'm sure they are fun for her to write because there are no rules. She doesn't have to have some fantastic story or event to write about. She just writes what she's thinking that day.
I have, however, decided not to give myself a standard day to write my thoughts. That's why I'm just calling these posts "Random". Then there's no pressure to write one every week. And, if I feel like it, I can even write TWO a week. Thanks for the idea, Allie!

I don't like Sunday afternoons because there's a whole bunch of time that I don't know what to do with. But every other day I have a ton of things to do and I never have enough time to do them. Why don't I remember those things on Sunday afternoons?

I finally looked up the definition of "died of natural causes". It was starting to bug me when I'd read in an obituary that someone "died of natural causes" at the age of 35 or 40. Turns out it doesn't mean they died of old age. Who knew?

While we're on the subject of obituaries.... I kind of take for granted that they are always in the paper. It's a fact of life and I'm used to seeing them there. I expect it. But it never dawned on me that almost every obituary in the paper is very unexpected for the family of the person who died. (I say "almost" because sometimes you are expecting it.) No one thinks it's normal to have their family member in the paper in the obituary section. I'm sure most of them are thinking what I was thinking "He shouldn't be here. This isn't normal. This shouldn't have happened. "

I think my nieces and nephews are the cutest kids ever. I'm continually awed, each time a new one comes along, at how cute they are. Surely THIS one can't be as cute as the others. Surely we've got to have an ugly one in the bunch. Not so.

Why do I have such a hard time spelling the words "receive", "niece", and "license"? I never get it right on the first try.

Is our marriage getting old when spending Valentine's Day weekend with two other couples was way more fun than spending it just the two of us?

I'll end this random post with a confession (for Jodilyn who, by the way for those of you who knew her in high school, isn't mean anymore): Last night Zack and I watched "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". I cried twice. But Zack doesn't know. So don't tell him. For such a dumb movie and one I'd made fun of for years, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Halfway through the movie, however, we both decided our girls would NEVER see it. Near the end we changed our minds. ...kind of.

And, for the record, I still think "Pants = Love" is stupid.

They should make a scary version of that movie called "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pale Green Pants With No One Inside Them." THAT I would watch. As a kid, those pants gave me the creeps. They still do. I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the book we owned had the last few pages ripped off and the story ended with the pale green pants cornering the poor boy up against a bush.

My Mom Is Awesome.

I like to think of it as subtle humor. I wish I was that funny when I was 5 or 6.

(For those to whom the humor is a little too subtle, she's the one, second from the right, with her eyes crossed.)
