Here's a few choices phrases I heard today while I was teaching zee leetle ones.
The Beginning of the Day
At our school, breakfast is served to everyone, everyday, for free. The kids know the routine: Come in, hang up your coat and backpack, put your homework folder in the bin, get your breakfast, eat it. While they're eating they usually talk to each other, in loud voices, even though they're sitting next to each other. Here's how one conversation went this morning:
Loud boy: Raise your hand if you believe in dragons!
(He looks around the room and spots a boy WITHOUT his hand raised. Heaven forbid you don't raise your hand when a statement like this is made.)
Loud boy: (said with gravity)Sawyer, if you don't believe in dragons, they might kill you.
A Different Loud boy: If you don't believe in dragons, then dragons don't believe in you.
Words of wisdom.
The End of the Day
To get my kids to clean up in a timely manner, I often time them. I'll give them 4 minutes to put their things away, put up their chairs, clean up the floor, and straighten up the room. (They really can do it in 4 minutes.) When the time is almost up I usually count down so they know they need to grab their backpacks and "come to the carpet." (Cooooome to the carpet! Cooooooome to the carpet!) Anyway...
Today as I was counting down (TEN! NINE! EIGHT!...) I had the feeling I was in the midst of a building demolition, or a battle field. Kids were running and ducking. In the midst of the chaos, a small girl ran to the carpet and yelled "I want everybody out of there, NOW!" and then another boy yelled "It's gonna blow!!!!"
I like their creativity. And I didn't even reprimand them for running. It's my birthday, so I went easy on them. I gave them Ding Dongs. Mmmmmmmmm, Ding Dongs.

The beginning and end of the day were hilarious, but the middle of the day was still my favorite :o)
Awwww, I love the dragons. My 5YO tells me every day that dragons are real.
I am SO GLAD that you are blogging some kid stories. Kid stories are the best!
