Random Thoughts Thursday

I can finally do a random post! I successfully posted about other things and have thus avoided a string of randomness.

Random Thoughts Thursday
I think my goal should be to write at least one post in between Thursdays so my blog doesn't end up being a string of Randomness. But it is better than not blogging at all...While I was at the store today I saw that Crayola crayons were on sale for 35 cents. I bought 5 of them. I have no use for crayons. It took a lot of will power not to buy 25 of them. This whole not getting ready for school this Fall is going to take some getting used to.
I am really susceptible to the power of suggestion. While reading through some websites today I saw a picture of sauteed mushrooms and (on another site) read about Twinkies. This is why I'm eating a Twinkie right now and dreaming about having something with sauteed mushrooms tomorrow. I wish I had more brain-control.
I'm currently reading "These is my Words" by Nancy E. Turner. Any book that can make you simultaneously laugh and cry at the same time is a winner.
When Caleb starts eating dinner regularly with us do we have to stop having 7-layer dip for dinner? Because that was a really good dinner tonight.
I've recently started reading this blog. She's hilarious, but she drops the occasional f-bomb, so I haven't recommended it to anyone. You've been warned. Why must people use profanity?
This song has been in my head today. It's really catchy. I don't really agree with all of the lyrics because I'm pretty sure that God is a man, but I get the message that says God loves everyone. And he turns vegetables into candy!
We went to the whole foods market and bought some new oil for Caleb's hair. Up until now we've been using baby oil. I also bought a Mounds bar. Why?
now smells like coconut.
And if I didn't have a Mounds bar, I would eat him.

Random Thoughts Thursday
Finally, Allie. Finally I am doing this. How does it feel to be a trend-setter, nay, a Leader of the voice of random on Thursday? Caleb might finally be ready for a two-nap day. Am I crazy for being excited about this?
One of these days I'm going to turn the light on in the bathroom and the whole room is going to catch on fire.
I am in love with my library's hold system. It's my book netflix. I just tell it what books I want and then it emails me when they are ready for me. This is bad for my productivity.
I just finished reading "Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes". Loved it. Now I have to check out other books written by Chris Crutcher. Thanks, Angie!
I recently read "I am the Messenger" by Markus Zusak. I liked it, but the ending seemed kind of like a cop-out. I think I was expecting something more, I don't know...deep?
Why is my first Random Thoughts turning into a book review?
Speaking of books, I have to thank Angie (again) for taking a serious dent out of my "house-cleaning/yard work/project/everything I'm supposed to be doing" time. When do I find time to read? Um, mostly when I should be doing other things. I have no self-control when it comes to reading. I really don't.
Zack and I recently discovered our favorite chocolate-chip cookie recipe...on the back of the Western Family chocolate-chip bag. Who knew?
We got a new garage door yesterday. It's different than our old one. It's white, insulated and has never been backed into. Thanks for blowing up, refinery!
I think "MckLinky" would be a cool name for a cat. ""Heeeere Linky Linky Linky!

Random
I'm not feeling well tonight. I have the beginnings of a cold. The body kind of hurts, eyes hurt, sore throat and drippy nose kind of cold. I didn't want to take the dogs out on a walk tonight because I didn't feeeeeel good. But it's been raining (and snowing, but we'll just try to forget that part) the past couple of days and they've been cooped up inside. So, being the kind-hearted person I am, I took them for a walk. (I admit my ulterior motive was that I wanted to see Danny and Rachel's big, GIANT, hole in the ground.) Maxwell pulled on the leash the entire time and McKay tripped along beside him. When he does that I stop walking so he'll get the hint that he can't do that. Our entire walk went like this: step-step-step-step-stop. step-step-stop. step-step-step-stop. "Maxwell, quit it!" step-step-step-stop. "So help me, puppy dog, I'm going to turn this leash right around and go home if you don't stop tugging...." Is that how you show appreciation to someone for taking you on a walk? Hmmmm?
Zack's on a camp out tonight so I had Kraft Macaroni and Cheese with hot dogs for dinner. Reminded me of hanging out with Heather and Allie up at that cabin. Domestic Heroes we aspired to be. Domestic Heroes they have become.
I feel guilty that I crave Kraft Mac'n'cheese once a year.
King of Queens, Scrubs and a bath are really easy ways to make me feel comfortable and happy. Now add Zack to the mix and life is indeed good.
Speaking of Scrubs, that show is single-handedly ruining our bedtime. Why does it have to be on from 10:00 to 11:00 at night? I can't keep going to sleep after 11:00 PM. Seriously, it's not healthy. Hence the cold. Speaking of, I need to get that bath water running and go heat up my hot honey lemonade.
I couldn't go to sleep last night because I kept thinking about the comparison of first grade and the celestial kingdom and how I was going to write it. It's coming along.
I also couldn't go to sleep last night because Zack and I started talking about all the T.V. shows we used to watch when we were kids. Holy crap, people. Did we ever see the light of day? I think we came up with a list of at least 30 sitcoms. When did we have time watch them all? And why did we watch shows like Cheers, Three's Company and The Golden Girls when we were kids? The Golden Girls?! Twelve year-olds watching a show about three old women trying to get men into bed is just a little weird if you ask me.

Random
I have, however, decided not to give myself a standard day to write my thoughts. That's why I'm just calling these posts "Random". Then there's no pressure to write one every week. And, if I feel like it, I can even write TWO a week. Thanks for the idea, Allie!
I don't like Sunday afternoons because there's a whole bunch of time that I don't know what to do with. But every other day I have a ton of things to do and I never have enough time to do them. Why don't I remember those things on Sunday afternoons?
I finally looked up the definition of "died of natural causes". It was starting to bug me when I'd read in an obituary that someone "died of natural causes" at the age of 35 or 40. Turns out it doesn't mean they died of old age. Who knew?
While we're on the subject of obituaries.... I kind of take for granted that they are always in the paper. It's a fact of life and I'm used to seeing them there. I expect it. But it never dawned on me that almost every obituary in the paper is very unexpected for the family of the person who died. (I say "almost" because sometimes you are expecting it.) No one thinks it's normal to have their family member in the paper in the obituary section. I'm sure most of them are thinking what I was thinking "He shouldn't be here. This isn't normal. This shouldn't have happened. "
I think my nieces and nephews are the cutest kids ever. I'm continually awed, each time a new one comes along, at how cute they are. Surely THIS one can't be as cute as the others. Surely we've got to have an ugly one in the bunch. Not so.
Why do I have such a hard time spelling the words "receive", "niece", and "license"? I never get it right on the first try.
Is our marriage getting old when spending Valentine's Day weekend with two other couples was way more fun than spending it just the two of us?
I'll end this random post with a confession (for Jodilyn who, by the way for those of you who knew her in high school, isn't mean anymore): Last night Zack and I watched "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". I cried twice. But Zack doesn't know. So don't tell him. For such a dumb movie and one I'd made fun of for years, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Halfway through the movie, however, we both decided our girls would NEVER see it. Near the end we changed our minds. ...kind of.
And, for the record, I still think "Pants = Love" is stupid.
They should make a scary version of that movie called "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pale Green Pants With No One Inside Them." THAT I would watch. As a kid, those pants gave me the creeps. They still do. I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the book we owned had the last few pages ripped off and the story ended with the pale green pants cornering the poor boy up against a bush.
